How to accept Klarna instalment payments in your shop - US

Buyers in the US aged 18 and over can choose to pay for certain items on Depop in instalments with Klarna, as long as the order meets certain requirements. Find more info on this here.

How can I offer Klarna as a payment option?

In order for a seller to offer Klarna as a payment option, they must:

  • Have registered to Depop and Depop Payments (via Stripe) with account country set to the US
  • Not be registered as a non-profit with Stripe

If you meet the criteria above, Klarna will automatically be available as a payment option in your shop. This means you don’t need to manually add the option for buyers to pay in instalments with Klarna.

For you as a seller, receiving Klarna payments works exactly the same way as payments that are made through Depop Payments. The money from Klarna transactions will be added to your Depop Balance and it will be paid out with the same payout schedule as Depop Payments. Find more info about the payout schedule here.

There is no way to opt out of Klarna as a payment option.

Am I responsible for the buyer's payments to Klarna?

When a buyer pays with Klarna, you receive the full payment in your Depop Balance at the time of the sale. The buyer will pay the instalments directly to Klarna. If the buyer fails to make payments to Klarna, this will not affect the payment you received for the item.

How refunds work with Klarna

You can refund a Klarna order in the same way you refund any other Depop Payments order. Once issued, Klarna will receive the refund from Depop and apply it to the buyer’s Klarna balance appropriately.

In order to offer you Klarna’s payment methods, we might in the checkout pass your personal data in the form of contact and order details to Klarna, in order for Klarna to assess whether you qualify for their payment methods and to tailor those payment methods for you. Your personal data transferred is processed in line with Klarna’s own privacy notice.

On certain qualifying purchases, you can pay via Klarna Bank AB (publ), Sveavägen 46, 111 34 Stockholm, Sweden. Payment is to be made to Klarna. You can find further information and Klarna’s user terms here.
