As part of our continuous efforts to provide a streamlined and efficient buying and selling experience for our community, we’ll be fully transitioning to Depop Payments in the UK and US, on October 23, 2023. As a result of this change, we’ll be removing PayPal as a payment method. We’ve written this article to help answer any questions you may have.
What is Depop Payments?
Depop Payments, powered by Stripe, is the primary way to get paid on Depop and simplifies payments for both buyers and sellers. When your shop has Depop Payments connected, buyers can pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit and debit cards, and Klarna.
I’m a buyer that uses PayPal, what does this mean for me?
As a buyer, it’s important that you can purchase items simply and safely, with the reassurance that if anything were to go wrong with your purchase, you have access to the right support to sort it out effectively. Depop Payments lets you pay via Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit and debit cards, and Klarna, making shopping on Depop simple. It also allows us to effectively oversee and support you with any issues you may have when purchasing.

From October 23, 2023, as a buyer, you may still see PayPal as a payment method with certain sellers. This is because the change will take effect gradually, over a period of around four weeks from this date. If you’re buying from a seller based outside the UK and US, you will be able to checkout using PayPal, as Stripe/Depop Payments is currently not available to sellers outside of the UK or US.
I’m a seller, what does this mean for me?
As a seller, it’s important you can sell simply, securely, and manage your earnings in one place. With Depop Payments, your buyers can pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit and debit cards and Klarna on your shop.
The benefits of Depop Payments for sellers includes:

- Easier payouts: With Depop Payments, you can have payments sent directly to your bank account, making it easier to monitor and manage your earnings.
If you already have Depop Payments set up as a seller, you’re good to go. If you haven’t set up Depop Payments yet, you will need to do so in order to continue listing and selling on Depop beyond October 23, 2023. When is PayPal being removed as a payment method?

How do I set up Depop Payments?
If you haven’t set up Depop Payments yet, head to your sellers hub, where you’ll be prompted with a sign up window. Follow the instructions to get set up.
Already signed up? There's no further action required from you. As a buyer, just check out with one of the available payment methods at checkout when you next make a purchase.
What happens if I haven’t set up Depop Payments by October 23, 2023?
If you’re an active user on the platform, and haven’t set up Depop Payments by October 23, 2023, you won't be able to list until you’ve set up Depop Payments. Follow the set up instructions above to make sure you’re prepared.
How will using Depop Payments affect the fees I pay?
Using Depop Payments will not affect the fees you pay on your sale versus PayPal. You will be charged a 10% Depop selling fee on the total transaction amount, including shipping costs - plus a transaction fee from the payment provider. While previously this transaction fee was directly charged by PayPal, it will now be directly charged through Depop Payments via Stripe - this will still be subtracted from your earnings before the funds are processed into your account.
How can I raise a dispute or get a refund?
With Depop Payments, you can raise disputes and request refunds through Depop’s Resolution Centre. We're committed to ensuring a fair and transparent process for all our users. Check out more information on how to raise disputes here:
What happens to the funds I've already processed through PayPal?
Any funds previously processed via PayPal are safe. You can still access your PayPal account and withdraw any payments made there. Simply visit your profile on the PayPal website to manage these funds.
What if I have a dispute open through PayPal already?
Any disputes open with PayPal can be managed through your account on their website, they will remain open until they are resolved.
What if a buyer offers to pay for my item through PayPal in our chat?
It's against Depop policies to buy or sell an item outside of the Depop platform. This is to ensure that all transactions are kept within Depop.
If you are a seller based outside of the UK and US, then the buyer can complete their transaction with PayPal within Depop.

What happens if I purchase an item with PayPal from someone outside the US or UK?
If you’re buying an item from a seller that is based outside the UK or US, you will be able to checkout with PayPal, as it will be displayed as one of your payment methods for this seller. This is because Depop Payments isn’t currently available for sellers outside of the UK and US.
How will this affect payout times?
UK: Your payout will be sent to your linked bank account 10 working days after the sale date (Monday to Friday and excluding bank holidays). You might see a 2-3 day difference in processing times depending on your bank. UK sellers: Learn more about how payouts work
US: If you use to "Ship with USPS" via Depop, or manually add tracking information to your item, your payout will be sent to your bank account 2 working days after the in-app tracking updates to ’Delivered'. If tracking details aren’t provided, your payout will be sent 10 working days after the sale date (Monday to Friday and excluding bank holidays).

How do I ship my items with Depop Payments?
PayPal shipping labels will no longer be available to UK and US sellers from October 23, 2023, but you’ll have the option of using Depop Shipping.
