To stay safe, always buy and sell in the Depop app. This way we can keep you and your money protected, and help out if anything goes wrong.
Buying or selling outside of the app is strictly prohibited by our Community Guidelines.
Why can’t I buy or sell outside of the app?
We don’t allow private payments between users because sending or receiving money outside of the app means that you aren’t covered by Depop Protection – which means we won’t be able to help out or refund you if anything goes wrong.
Depop will act on any payment activity that violates our Community Guidelines. This could lead to your account being suspended or permanently closed.
How to stay safe:
- Never send money to another user privately or meet them in person, even if the seller is insisting you do so.
- Only use Depop’s messaging system to talk to buyers and sellers, and don’t message people privately outside of the app. Sharing personal information such as your phone number, email address or social media handles can be really unsafe.
- Never share information such as your PayPal account or bank details with a buyer so they can send you money privately – you could end up losing your money or your item.
Don’t take the risk – always keep it in-app. We’re always ready to step in if you need our help.
