Why has Depop partnered with EcoEnclose?
The climate crisis is here. So are we. At Depop, we know that the climate crisis can’t wait. That’s why we’re taking the necessary steps to do our part for the planet — like committing to net-zero emissions by 2030 and purchasing carbon offsets for shipping and packaging on all Depop deliveries. Offering recyclable packaging to Depop sellers at competitive prices is just another way to reduce our environmental impact.
It’s smart for business.
We know that running a business that’s kinder to the planet is top of mind to Depop sellers, too. Plus – adopting more sustainable business practices could help you as a seller get in front of more buyers on Depop.
A lot of packaging material isn’t immediately recyclable. This is.
Paper-based material is one of the most commonly accepted recyclables in the US, with recycling rates of up to 96.5%*. So when your buyer receives this eco-friendly packaging made of 100% recycled or SFI-certified materials, they can either reuse it or put it directly into a paper recycling bin.

SELLERS & BUYERS
What is sustainable about EcoEnclose’s packaging?
All packaging in the assortment we’ve created with EcoEnclose is made using 100% recycled content, or materials that are certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (tissue paper and void fill materials). As this packaging is entirely paper-based, it’s easy to recycle at home.
Also, Depop now offsets 100% of the emissions from the packaging materials sellers use. We encourage sellers to use packaging that is sized right for the shipment and to reuse existing packaging whenever possible.
Why is the packaging only available to sellers in the US?
As EcoEnclose is based in the US, we’ve decided to trial this initiative in their local market to limit overall shipping emissions. We’re planning to explore options on how and when to offer eco-friendly packaging solutions to sellers in other parts of the world in the future.
What other efforts are you making as a company towards creating a more sustainable industry?
In January 2021, Depop announced a two-year sustainability plan designed to develop and promote a culture based around creativity, circularity, equity and exchange. Learn more here.
Our partnership with EcoEnclose contributes to reducing our indirect greenhouse gas emissions. It is part of our plan to reach our Net Zero targets, which we set as part of Etsy Inc. You can read more about it here.
Why did Depop select EcoEnclose as partner?
We selected EcoEnclose for a number of reasons, including their commitment to sustainability and their wide-ranging packaging assortment. We hope to invite more vendors from other parts of the world to the programme to eventually expand beyond the US.
Why are you introducing a sticker to use on reused packaging?
Reusing packaging is a great way to reduce your shop’s environmental impact. That’s why we’ve created a custom, 100% recyclable sticker to spruce up secondhand packaging and help it stand out to buyers. It's made from 100% post-consumer recycled content, printed on uncoated paper, and with a fully recyclable backer sheet.
We know it can seem counterintuitive to add more packaging through a sticker, but we think it’s a great way to let buyers know that reuse matters to your business. If your buyers are already happy with your reused packaging – keep it up. If you think a sticker will make your secondhand packaging look better and get buyers excited about reuse – give it a try.
