What is two-factor authentication (2FA)?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an optional security feature that keeps your account secure. It adds a second login step so we can make sure it’s you who’s logging in.

When it's turned on, we’ll send you a 6-digit login code via text that you’ll need to enter. This helps us verify it's you and keeps your account more secure than if you were using a password.

To set up two-factor authentication:

  • Go to My Depop and tap My account (also labelled Settings)
  • Choose Two-factor authentication
  • Follow the instructions to set it up

Once you’ve set it up, you’ll get an email to confirm it’s turned on.

Does two-factor authentication work on web?

If you have two-factor authentication turned on, logging in to Depop.com is similar to the app. The only differences are that you can’t:

  • Turn off two-factor authentication
  • Turn two-factor authentication back on if you turned it off in the app
  • Use your recovery code to log in

If you need to do any of these things, you’ll need to use the app.

Login issues

I didn’t receive a login code (6-digit SMS)

If you‘re using an old version of the app or don’t have any network coverage, you may not receive a login code. Having roaming turned off on your phone can also be a reason. If you didn’t get a login code, you can request another one:

  • Tap Didn’t get your code?
  • Select Resend 6-digit SMS

What’s a recovery code?

When you first set up two-factor authentication, we’ll give you a 12-character recovery code.

This is a backup code and is the only way to log in if you can’t access the 6-digit SMS login code.

We recommend writing it down or taking a screenshot of your recovery code and saving it to the cloud, rather than just on your device, as you can’t request a new one.

To use your recovery code to log in, just:

  • Tap Didn’t get your code?
  • Select Use my 12-character recovery code and follow the instructions to log in.

If you use your recovery code to log in, two-factor authentication will automatically be turned off. To keep your account secure, we recommend you turn it back on.

If you can’t find your recovery code, get in touch with us.
