eBay to acquire Depop - FAQ

Why is Depop being acquired by eBay?

eBay believes strongly in re-commerce and the future of circular fashion – just like we do. They have deep experience building and supporting global marketplaces that connect buyers and sellers, and they share our belief in the power of communities.

eBay’s mission and capabilities complement what we’ve built at Depop. This next step creates meaningful opportunities for our entire community – giving us the scale and support to continue growing while staying true to who we are.

eBay recognizes the strength of our differentiated brand, people and the growth we’ve achieved in resale. They’re excited to build on what makes Depop special in this next chapter. For more information, please visit our Depop Newsroom.

Is Depop being rebranded as eBay or some other name?

No. Depop will remain Depop. You have helped create something truly special. Depop was born from community, and that spirit has always been at the heart of everything we do. That is something we, and eBay, deeply value and there are no plans to change who we are. Once the transaction closes, we will operate as a standalone business unit within eBay, under the same brand, led by the same team.

I am a seller on both eBay and Depop. Will my accounts be merged?

No. For now and until the transaction closes, Depop and eBay are separate companies, and there will be no changes in how we interact with you. Once the transaction closes, we will operate as a standalone business unit and expect to run much as we do today. We will communicate any changes directly, as always.

Will my shop be moved over to eBay?

No. Your shop will not be moved to eBay. There are currently no planned changes that would impact how you run your shop or business.

What actions do I need to take?

You don’t need to take any action. Your experience on Depop will remain the same, and we will continue to operate in the same way that we do now.

Will our policies change?

As of now, we have no plans to change our policies.

Do I now contact eBay instead of the Depop customer support when I have questions or issues?

For now and until the transaction closes, Depop and eBay are separate companies, and there will be no changes in how we interact with you. Once the transaction closes, we will operate as a standalone business unit within eBay and expect to run much as we do today. We will communicate any changes directly, as always.  If you have any further questions, please reach out to our support team.
