How can I improve the ranking of my items?

The best way to improve the ranking of your items is to:

  • Make sure your item is priced well. Why not take a look at other similar items to get a sense of what price to list at. 
  • Make sure your item has a clear and accurate description without any unnecessary information.
  • Make use of the 8 image feature to showcase your item and highlight details and flaws.

What about the length of the item description?

The most important thing is that the description describes the item as clearly and accurately as possible, including measurements and signs of wear if applicable. Putting excess, irrelevant information, for example, a different brand to the brand of the items could harm listing exposure

 

Why am I not seeing my items in search results?

There are a couple of reasons your item might not show up for a particular search:

  • Search results will consider your previous shopping habits, so not everyone will see the same results. Just because you can’t see your item doesn’t mean that other buyers can’t. 
  • The search has a lot of results e.g. ‘Nike’, so there are a lot of items competing for the top places in search results.
  • The search has filters applied to it (e.g. colour, condition), so your item will only show up if its listing information matches what the buyer is searching for e.g. ‘black’ or ‘brand new’. This is why it’s so important to create accurate and complete listings. 

 

Does how much I sell affect how my items rank?

The Depop algorithm does consider the number of sales you made in the last 30 days, as well as how many views and add to bags your listings received, when deciding the ranking of your items.

 

I get a lot of messages and offers from buyers. Does my response time affect how my items rank in search results?

No, your response time to messages and offers doesn’t directly affect how your items rank. It’s worth bearing in mind though, that sellers who respond quickly to buyers are more likely to sell their items and receive positive feedback.

 

What happens if I go on holiday or can’t check my Depop for a while?

The best thing to do is to switch on ‘Vacation Mode’ in your settings so that buyers don’t purchase your items and end up disappointed. 
You can also let buyers know in your bio or item description(s) that you’re away at the moment and unable to respond to messages quickly, and if possible, let them know when you will be back.
